This is my go-to place. I've tried others and am always disappointed so even though I moved away, I still drive here to eat-in or get takeout.
Their egg rolls are perfect. I don't know why so many restaurant's egg rolls are just full of cabbage and nothing else nowadays, but Chin's does it right.
Their sweet and sour chicken has carrots, pineapples and peppers in the sauce, just how I like. Their breading is soft. Every place I've tried has rock-hard breading. Not Chin's. Egg drop soup is also great!
The inside is dated, but hey, the food makes up for it. It's what I crave when I want American style chinese food. The server was super friendly and they never do me wrong. -

Was meeting a friend of mine for lunch one day and, since he's a cocktail aficionado, he wanted to meet at Chin's since it was halfway between our houses and also a legendary tiki bar in the area.
Alas the whole experience was just "OK." Despite being noteworthy as "the original" tiki bar in Detroit the drinks were underwhelming. Mine was just basically Hawaiian fruit punch and rum served in a plastic cup. Nothing interesting or noteworthy in their cocktail program.
Food was ok. I ordered the Mongolian beef and we split a few appetizers like crab rangoon and some potstickers. Nothing particularly stood out or was memorable. I suppose if you grew up going here you'll love it (as I acknowledge that the Chinese place I grew up going to is not great but I love it because it reminds me of being a kid) but for a newbie I wasn't all that wowed.
The space is pretty fun tho. The decor is definitely a great throwback with tons of lights and things to look at. -

Tasted like something out of a microwave box from the grocery store. Ordered Sesame Chicken with fried rice and an order of vegetable Chow Mein. They said 15 mins & I showed up after 10. Food wasn't even hot somehow. For the same price I paid I could have gotten Ichiban take out or any higher quality Chinese food meal. Also greeted by a loud sigh coming from the back of the restaurant which lasted her whole way up to the counter. Do not recommend!!!

Eggs rolls were great and so was the egg drop soup. The general tso chicken was disgusting. Dry chicken in some soggy sauté and no spices. Yuck.
No surprise we were the only ones eating at 5:30 in the afternoon. -

Interesting dining experience-
We arrived around 5 pm on NYE and we were the only ones there- the Asian older man didn't really even acknowledge us-not a hello- happy NY... we asked to sit and he pointed to the rightbrought us our menus but we had to ask him if we could get drinks- we had to indicate to him that we were ready to order- 20 minutes in and we still are the only ones we're beginning to think this is hilarious as we purposely didn't go to our usual Chinese NYE place because it's always packed and the food isn't as good on a holiday -
Our Rangoon is placed along with some very very watery dipping sauce-the Rangoons were hot on outside but weirdly cold on the inside... now a waitress has appeared and another couple the waitress stops by to ask us about our Rangoon and drinks- then says " I would have made them better" which made me wonder if the elderly man made them alcohol free-
The hot sour soup was perfect! Delicious and it was actually hot-
The egg roll was the grossest egg roll I've ever eaten - again hot on the outside but cool inside and bean sprout base rather than cabbage-
My sweet sour chicken combo was a good/ bad dish - the chicken pieces were great- sauce was yummy and hot BUT the pineapple, and veggies were cold... and created a yuck taste with the hot- the fried rice was more like soy sauce rice and was cold-
My husband's Kung pao beef was bland - for a schezuan dish they didn't add any heat or flavor- a the meat was tender but again a lukewarm dish...the rice was spicier than theKpb
When my husband was a kid 60's/70's this was their go to place for Chinese- the ambiance/ decor remains the same and I loved it- the service was still very lacking or at least the interaction was-
So we can take this place off our list
